This 40' standard box car with Superior door is painted yellow-orange with black roof & ends, blue C&EI oval, "Speed Service" logo and runs on black Allied full cushion trucks. In September 1945, the C&EI purchased 5, 40'-6" IL express box cars from PSCMCO. Numbered 1-5 and equipped with Ajax power hand brakes, each car carried a different slogan and ran with their passenger service to and from Chicago through Illinois and Indiana: "Route of the Dixie Limited," "Route of the Dixie Flyers," "Route of the Dixie Flagler," "Chicago St. Louis Southwest," & "Chicago Evansville Southeast." |
